Chapter 4 - Getting Started The most common way of starting a program is via the Start Menu. It is the way to reach many of the programs on your computer. In the pop up menu that appears, you will find access to files, programs, Windows tools and many other features of your computer. When you've started them, they'll appear in the Taskbar on the bottom of the Desktop. Follow the instructions to learn how to use the Start Menu. Using the Start Menu Do this: Move your pointer onto the Start Menu. Click the left mouse button. A menu should pop up showing a list of entries. You will see arrowheads next to some of these entries. These tell you that there's another menu called a Submenu which will appear to the side. These submenus can contain other programs, files and submenus. Do this: Move the mouse up the menu to Programs. Note the arrowhead beside it. A Submenu will appear Drag out to the right to explore the Submenu. Click on the icon of the program, file or folder you require. Note: Move the pointer over the Desktop and left click to get out of any menu.
Starting a Program Do this: Move your pointer onto the Start Menu. Click the left mouse button. Move the mouse up the menu to Programs. Enter the Submenu for Programs by moving the pointer out to the right Drag to the Accessories folder. Drag to Notepad. Click the left mouse button to choose the Notepad.
Exit a Program Do this: Move the pointer to the File menu in the program window. Left click. Drag to Exit Left click. This will close (exit) the program and bring you back to the Desktop.
